DAY 2
With the arrival of the first sun rays, rising in the East, so do the contours of the Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple, and all this is served with our compliments with your breakfast. It is the quietness, aside from the sounds of soothing gamelan music that will elevate your morning experience to new heights. Rice paddy fields, the Menoreh Mountains with its characteristic volcanoes and the verdant green Javanese inlands spice up your morning even further.
Once entering one of Indonesia’s largest cities, it comes as no surprise why Yogyakarta is dubbed as the cultural hub for Indonesia. With the astounding temple complexes of the Borobudur and the Prambanan within a short distance from the beating heart of Java, the attractiveness for avid explorers is found around almost every corner. Besides its priceless architecture monuments, the atmosphere of Yogyakarta is partly due to the fact that the Sultan of Yogyakarta empowers its inhabitants, being supportive and attracting Indonesians from all over the archipelago, to experience the artistic and bustling life of the city. A Javanese lifestyle will captivate you right away, whether you wander around the compound of the Sultan’s Palace or navigate through the hustle and bustle of the Taman Sari.
Unearthed after being covered in ashes for years, the mighty Borobudur signals something on the Amanjiwo horizon that demands to be explored, whether it be very early in the morning or during the day. Looming out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddies and swaying palm tops, this colossal Buddhist relic is one of the continent’s marvels. After the decline of Buddhism and the shift of power to East Java, the monument was abandoned soon after its completion. For centuries the complex laid forgotten, buried under layers of volcanic ash. Climb up to the top and enjoy a wonderful view on the Menoreh Mountains.
Today would be a perfect time to discover what lies beyond the crescent walls of the Amanjiwo, wander around its massive stone base and perhaps sample a local-prepared delicacy, together with your guide.
It will be again pure bliss from early morning until the very last rays of the sun warm up the rice paddies, the surrounding jungle, wrapped around the Amanjiwo like an envelope while dining at the sight that tomorrow will yet be another day among the hospitable Javanese.
The resort’s Garden Suites with its ample amenities, serene location and designed in such a way that it brings out the best of both worlds (Indonesian and western) assures a worriless night sleep.
Overnight is booked at one of Amanjiwo’s well-appointed suites.

As another day comes to an end, your evening filled with authenticity and local delicacies just started. Warmly welcomed by your guide for the evening, a leisurely drive brings you deep in the heart of Yogyakarta, and in particular, the cradle of food – Tugu. It may not fit exactly in the definition of a 100% market concept but it definitely does not lack in local shopping, local food and great times. As soon as night falls, the street turns into a place of pure magnificence where street side vendors set up shop selling local delicacies as they wiggle their carts between local handicraft vendors and local malls. It is really at night that this Jalan (street) comes to life and visitors often find that an evening here complements a full day of fabulous sightseeing perfectly. Picking only the local favourites, the dining pleasures, served just like the locals, slowly fill your stomach with an explosion of local flavours.
Digging in to exquisite specialities and time-honoured favourites such as nasi campur to Bakmie are complemented with stories, explanations and smiles and fulfilled moments before heading back in all comfort to the comfort of your garden suite for the final night.
