Discover Authentic Mekong Culture on a 4-Day Halal Tour in Thailand
On Day 1, we will have lunch at a local restaurant in Loei before visiting the Tai Dam Cultural Centre and Museum in Ban Na Pa Nhad, Chiang Khan District. Here, we can learn about the history, cultures, and traditions of the Thai Dam, an indigenous tribe who call Loei their home. We will also have the opportunity to interact with the locals, see an original Tai Dam-style house, play traditional games, and make a Tai Dam amulet. Afterward, we will take a gentle boat ride along the River Mekong to Kaeng Khut Khu islet before staying overnight at Mountain River Resort or Chic Chiangkhan Boutique Hotel.
Day 2 starts with the daily alms-giving ritual carried out by monks in Chiang Khan before breakfast. Afterward, we will explore the quaint riverside town and visit attractions such as Wat Sri Kun Muang and ancient Wat Mahatas. We will also try a traditional healing foot massage before checking out of the hotel and heading to Dansai district. There, we will visit Wat Phu Rua Ming Muang Temple and a floating raft restaurant serving Isaan delicacies before checking in at Phu Na Come Resort for the night.
On Day 3, we will start with a leisurely bike tour of Dansai town and make ton puoeng at a handicraft shop, which we will use as a sacred offering at our next stop, Sri Song Rak Pagoda. We will also visit the hillside temple of Neramitre Vipassana and the Phi Ta Khon Museum to learn about the famous Phi Ta Khon Festival. At the museum, we will paint our own mask made from local materials. Afterward, we will return to the hotel for lunch before departing for Muang Loei, where we will stay overnight at Loei Palace or Loei Pavillion Resort.
On Day 4, we will visit a local home in Ban Pha Whai village in Nong Hin district to see how hand-painted bamboo piggy banks are made. We will then take a short ride on a traditional truck to reach the peak of Phu Pa Poh mountain for breath-taking views. Afterward, we will attend a cookery class at a local restaurant where we will make a spicy som tam salad before heading to Bodhisat Cave and the Stone Garden to learn about protected plants and medicinal herbs.
